Nivela privacy policy
Last updated: November 7, 2026. Versión en español.
Nivela keeps your health data only on your phone. No one else sees it: not the people who make the app, not Google, not any other service. Here we explain what data it handles, what for, and how you control it.
What data it stores
- Your glucose readings: value, timing, date and time, notes and tags.
- The insulin doses and medication you log.
- Your lab HbA1c results.
- Your appointments and your questions for your doctor.
- Your plan for lows and your emergency card, with the contact you choose (name and phone number).
- The supplies you count (strips, lancets, needles) and the ones you have in use (pens, sensors), your reminders and your settings (unit, range, theme and language).
- From the paired meter: its name and serial number, and the readings you import.
Everything you enter is voluntary: without data, the app simply has nothing to show you. The name you type when making the report goes only in the PDF and is not stored. If you read the meter value with the camera, the photo is taken by the phone’s camera app: Nivela reads it on the phone and deletes it right away, without saving or sharing it.
What it uses them for
Only to show them to you: your history, the charts, the patterns, the report for your doctor, the reminders and the notifications. Patterns are calculated on the phone and describe your own data; Nivela does not give diagnoses, doses or treatments.
Nivela shows no ads, builds no profiles, and does not sell or share your data.
Steps and sleep from Health Connect
If you connect it, Nivela reads your steps and sleep from Health Connect, only to show you in Patterns whether your values change with them. They are read while the app is open and used on the spot: Nivela doesn’t store them, doesn’t write anything to Health Connect, doesn’t share or send them anywhere, and doesn’t use them for anything else (no ads, no profiles).
It’s optional: without connecting it, Nivela works the same. You can remove the permission whenever you want from Health Connect or from Tools → Steps and sleep.
Nivela’s use of information received from Health Connect adheres to the Health Connect Permissions policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Where it stays
Only on your phone, in an encrypted database. The key is kept in Android’s secure storage and never leaves the device.
Nivela has no accounts or servers, and the app has no permission to use the internet: it cannot send your data anywhere. It also uses no analytics or crash reports, and Android’s cloud backup is turned off for Nivela.
When it leaves the phone
Only when you decide:
- When you share the report (PDF), the emergency card (PDF or image), the spreadsheet (CSV) or a backup, with the app you choose.
- With automatic backup, in the folder you choose.
Those files are not encrypted. What happens to them depends on where you save them or who you send them to: share them with care.
Permissions it asks for
- Notifications: for the reminders and notifications you turn on.
- Exact alarms (optional): so notifications arrive on time.
- Nearby devices (Bluetooth): only to connect your meter.
- Location, only on Android 11 or earlier: the system requires it to search for Bluetooth devices. Nivela doesn’t use or store your location.
- Fingerprint or PIN, if you turn on the lock: the phone checks them; Nivela never sees them.
- Steps and sleep from Health Connect, if you connect it: only to read them.
Each permission is requested only when it’s needed, and you can remove it from the phone’s settings.
How long it’s kept
As long as you want. You can delete a reading, your whole history or all your data from Settings. If you uninstall Nivela, Android deletes everything the app stored on the phone. Copies you exported stay where you saved them until you delete them.
Your rights
Health data is sensitive data under Argentina’s Personal Data Protection Law No. 25,326. Since it stays on your phone, you exercise your rights directly in the app: view and export your data (access), edit it (rectification) and delete it (erasure). You can withdraw your consent whenever you want by deleting all your data.
The owner of the personal data has the right to access it free of charge at intervals of no less than six months, unless a legitimate interest is shown, as established in article 14, paragraph 3 of Law No. 25,326. The Agency for Access to Public Information (Agencia de Acceso a la Información Pública), as the Control Body of Law No. 25,326, has the authority to handle the complaints and claims filed by anyone whose rights are affected by non-compliance with the rules in force on personal data protection.
Minors
If you are under 18, use Nivela together with your mother, your father or a responsible adult.
Changes to this policy
If how Nivela handles your data ever changes, the app will show you and ask you to accept it before you keep using it. The date at the top shows the last update.
